ELCA Malaria Campaign - update

May 29, 2014 - download the flyer HERE

Dear friend,

Thanks to you and thousands of supporters like you, together we surpassed our goal of $250,000 for World Malaria Day. Because of your overwhelming generosity, gifts for the ELCA Malaria Campaign totaled $300,000, given in addition to $100,000 of matching funds. We are able to launch malaria work in Namibia this year. Thank you!

In Namibia, our primary companion in malaria work is the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia. The church is present mainly in the northern part of Namibia, where the threat of malaria is most severe. Right now, start-up plans are being finalized, and thanks in part to your gifts, these plans are able to become reality.

Starting work in Namibia is just one example of the amazing things our church can accomplish together. When each of us contributes toward a shared purpose, our gifts are multiplied and magnified. I can’t say it often enough – thank you!

In Christ's service,

Jessica Nipp Hacker

Coordinator, ELCA Malaria Campaign

Pastor Paula's Retirement Festivities!

Saturday and Sunday, November 21st and 22nd

Pastor Paula's last Sunday at Trinity was Sunday, November 22, 2015. A luncheon was held in her honor, in the fellowship hall following the service. The Fellowship team provided the main dish. The congregation brought memories, smiles and a dish to share. She will be missed, but we congratulate and thank her for her years of friendship and service!!!

Pastor Paula's Farewell Message

September 20, 2015

My dear Friends at Trinity: We have often been small and yet mighty. This congregation has been full of energy, caring, Gods Spirit, and hope. In the midst of responding to Jesus’ love we have made community together and this community has made a lot of ministries out of nothing. We have literally put our hearts, heads and hands together to address challenges, celebrations, difficulties, concerns, deaths and lives! Our future as a congregation has been a leap of faith and hope.

We follow Jesus as He leaps daily. Today we arrive together to another time: one of change and wonder. Today you hear this pastor saying, Thank you for love, trust, growth, and life together in Christ. In November I will step down as pastor with Trinity. We have shared twenty-five amazing years together. I will look toward retirement with my eyes ahead and gleaming, being guided by Jesus. I will look with eyes behind gleaming, remembering how we made life happen for each other and for those around us here at Hall & Detroit. We have done good servant work! Bless you all! Thanks for amazing us all and making life for all in God’s good, Jesus’ gentleness, and the Spirit’s direction as we journeyed together.

Volunteer Flash Mob!

Saturday, January 19, 2013

A "flash mob" of 50 volunteers for the National Service Day came this past Saturday and left TLCO with a reorganized storeroom, a stocked pantry, cleaned out garden, cleaned out flowerbeds, weed free sidewalks and property, a totally swept parking lot and sidewalks all around, washed windows on the first floor, cleaned bathrooms from top to bottom, cleaned stage area, and tables set for our 80 guests.

A lunch of chicken, soup, potatoes and vegetables was prepared and served.

Then afterwards everything was cleaned up!

Some connections were made with potential new volunteers, potential sponsors for one of our meals, potential chefs for the 1st Monday meal.

Trinity's annual Blessing of the Beasts and Children event, held every Christmas Eve, gives everyone a chance to bring their pets and other loved ones to receive a blessing. Past years have seen visits from cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, snakes, snapping turtles and even a flying shark!

Trinity's 100th Anniversary Celebration

Sunday, June 3, 2012

A major celebration was held on Sunday, June 3, 2012, with Bishop Elizabeth Eaton of the NortheasternOhio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America preaching. (Bishop Eaton was raised through the guidance of Trinity Lakewood, by the way!) Lunch, conversation, reunion and festivities ensued after service.

As it goes in the little song, "The Church is not the building, the Church is not the steeple, the Church is not a resting place, the Church is the people"! Come back, come home, come remember, come grow!

Check out an array of photos from the celebration HERE !

2012 Lakewood City Limits Concert Series

Third Thursday Concert Series at TLC

The Cross Ties Band is an acoustic, stringed instrument band based in northwest Georgia. Covering a broad spectrum of musical tastes, the versatile ensemble enjoys playing and singing bluegrass, gospel, a cappella spirituals, Sacred Harp hymns, and traditional Irish music. With "something for everybody," the group is seen regularly at churches, festivals, and private social events throughout Georgia and the southeast.

Although Cross Ties was only officially formed as a band in 2003, some band members have been performing together since 1987 as The Universal Pickers. Cross Ties and its predecessor group have completed four concert tours of Germany since 1997, as well as appeared locally with well-known artists such as The Inspirations, The Isaacs, IIIrd Tyme Out, and Doc Watson. The band has produced seven recording projects since 1990, with the most recent since the summer of 2004: “Makin’ Tracks”, “Wonderful Over There”, and “Life's Highway”. The band recently re-released its 1993 recording "Original Sacred Harp" on CD. This recording has gained national attention as a selection requested by the Library of Congress.

The Cross Ties Band consists of Johnny Wright, Randy Garrett, Randy Ellis, and Bret Mulcay. The band's repertoire reflects the diverse talents and backgrounds of the individual members, and a Cross Ties show is full of instrument swapping and unexpected combinations of harmony. Coupled with enjoyable comedy and audience interaction, the end result is uplifting and entertaining.
